About Us
Irish Connections Tours was born as an alternative to the huge 40-50 person coach tours common in Ireland. Jeff McElwee, our founder, lead guide and tour administrator will take you on a personal, off-the-beaten-track experience, where you’ll feel the spirit and history of ancient Ireland, meet the Irish people as you stay in quaint bed and breakfast inns, and even see the “hot spots” of Ireland in ways no coach tour can.
For example, when visiting Blarney Castle, you'll likely want to kiss the Blarney Stone for the gift of eloquence as the legend goes. However many large tours won't lead you through the “rock close” right on the castle grounds that features exotic plants, 400-year-old trees growing out of the rock and a dolmen, constructed 3000 years ago.
Jeff has been traveling to Ireland since 1993 and has been to Ireland on at least 17 different occasions. He escorted two full months worth of tours in 2005. His knowledge as an author of Irish fiction and a researcher of Celtic and Irish history make him a natural guide.
He's found several intriguing castles, Neolithic stone circles and dolmans, as well as abbey’s, churches, round towers and Celtic crosses that are off the usual tourist trail. Combine these spiritual sites with intimate bed and breakfast inns, lively Irish musical opportunities and delicious food, and you’ll experience Ireland in a way few have.
Jeff also relieves you of the hassle (and harrowing moments) of driving on the wrong side of the road, while sitting on the wrong side of the car. He has safely driven more than 15,000 miles in Ireland since 1996.
